Why a Doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a birthing person and their family before, during, and after childbirth. Having a doula can make a significant difference in your birthing experience in many ways.

1. Personalised Care and Support

Every pregnancy is different, so as your doula, I will tailor our sessions to meet your specific needs and preferences. From creating your birth preferences; providing you with evidence based research to help answer your questions, to providing practical support during labour, I am committed to making you feel as prepared, comfortable and positive as possible.

2. Emotional and Physical Comfort

It is difficult to describe or imagine how labour will feel but with a doula by your side, you have a constant source of reassurance and comfort. I can use various techniques, such as massage, breathing exercises and positioning, to help manage pain and keep you as relaxed as possible.

3. Advocacy and Communication

Navigating the healthcare system can be challenging. As your doula, I will do all that I can to ensure your wishes are communicated effectively to those who need to know. I will help you understand your options and provide you with evidence based research to enable you to make informed decisions.

4. Reduced Interventions

Studies have shown that the presence of a doula can lead to a reduction in medical interventions, such as cesarean sections, epidurals and the use of forceps or vacuum extraction. With a doula, you are more likely to have a natural and satisfying birth experience.

5. Continuous Support

Unlike medical staff who may change shifts, a doula provides continuous support. This consistent presence helps create a sense of stability and trust, which is crucial for a positive birthing experience.

6. Enhanced Partner Involvement

Doulas also support partners, helping them understand how to best assist during labour. I will ensure that your partner feels confident and involved, enhancing their experience as well.

7. Postpartum Support

The journey doesn't end with childbirth. As a postnatal doula, I can offer continued support as you transition into parenthood. From breastfeeding guidance, organsing your cupboards, walking your dog and providing emotional support - I am here to help you navigate the challenges of the early days with your newborn.
