Hi, I'm Kate,

I live in Petworth, West Sussex with my partner and mischievous miniature dachshund Dolly. I am originally from Liverpool, but have lived in the South for over 20 years. My background is in education leadership.

I have 4 grown up children, Sophie, Martha, Rudy and Mags, who are all amazing (of course!) and I am very lucky to have 3 beautiful grandchildren as well. I also had 2 baby boys, Tom and Isaac, who sadly didn't make it past the second trimester. If you would like to read more, or gain support for similar situations, please read my section on loss.

My births have all been very different, each teaching me something new about the incredible journey of pregnancy, labour and birth. I had my first daughter, Sophie, when I was 18. It was a very medicalised experience and while the professionals were kind and caring, I felt somewhat disconnected from the process. Nine years later, with my second baby, I thought I was better prepared — I even wrote a ‘birth plan’. But birth, as we all know, has a way of unfolding in its own unique way and I realised that I had to much to learn about how to make my preferences possible. In my later pregnancies, I was monitored more closely by the hospital. While everything was handled sensitively and having a midwife who truly knew me made all the difference. Her encouragement, knowledge and support helped me navigate each birth with more confidence and reassurance. I’ve also been fortunate to have incredible women by my side during each labour, offering guidance, care and companionship throughout the experience. At 43, I became a grandmother — though my grandchildren call me ‘Kitty’. Being present at all three of my daughter’s births was a beautiful and inspiring experience. Watching her approach birth with calm, confidence and presence reminded me what it’s truly like to be involved, supported and empowered throughout labour. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing a wide spectrum of birth experiences — the challenges, the surprises and the profound joys. Each birth is unique and miraculous and every family deserves to feel informed, prepared and supported as they navigate this journey. It is this passion that inspired me to become a doula: to walk alongside families with empathy, encouragement and practical support, helping them feel empowered and cared for every step of the way.
I feel that every birthing person and their family benefits from continuous emotional and informational support before, during and after childbirth. Having a doula that you and your partner, if you have one, have chosen, to provide a familiar face and a constant companion can deliver enormous benefits. As your doula, I will respect and nurture you; support your birth choices; provide research based evidence to respond to your questions; help to create and sustain a calm and unhurried environment for your birth; hold your space and do all that I can to support your transformation into parenthood. Every woman deserves to be able to birth how they want to. Every woman deserves a doula. I would be honoured to be yours.
